Don't Cancel Health Insurance without a Backup Plan

Canceling your health insurance policy is not a good idea if you have nowhere else to turn for coverage. Some people get so fed up with their coverage that they decide to cancel it and move on. The problem is that they have no idea where they are going. Simply put, if you are going to cancel your current health insurance policy you need to have a backup plan in place. In other words, answer this question: where are you going to get coverage? If you cannot answer this question you need to stick with your current provider for the time being. There is no reason to leave one health insurance company if you don't have another policy ready to pick up right away.

There are ways that you can cancel your health insurance and have a new policy waiting. For instance, if you cancel an individual policy to get on your spouse's group coverage you are making a good move. Not only will you still have coverage but there is a very good chance that you will save a lot of money. And what type of consumer doesn't want to save; especially on something as costly as health insurance.

You can move from one individual health insurance policy to the next, but you have to be careful when doing so. It is important to avoid any lapse in coverage. You don't want to go without health insurance for one day. So if you are going to cancel one policy, be sure that the next one is going into effect right away.

There is nothing wrong with canceling your current coverage as long as you have another waiting on you. It is important to always have health insurance no matter where it is coming from.
