Don't Lose Health Insurance, even if you Lose your Job
Have your recently lost your job? Are you afraid that this could be coming in the next few months? If so, you are probably quite worried about the problems that this can cause; and for good reason. One of the most important details is your health insurance. If you were previously receiving coverage from your employer you know that you will now need to buy on your own. Unfortunately, many people who lose their job feel that they cannot afford to buy an individual policy and instead try to live without coverage. This is a big mistake on many levels.
If you lose your job and health insurance you should first look into COBRA. This allows you to keep the same policy in place until you find a new one. Despite the fact that you have to pay for this coverage it is better than being thrown out in the cold with nothing to keep you protected.
If COBRA is too expensive or you are simply not interested it may be time for you to consider buying an individual health insurance policy. You may not want to spend too much money on coverage, so just go out and find something that offers protection on a basic level. This may be a very good idea if you don't have a history of seeking medical attention on a regular basis.
Losing your job is never fun, and can bring a lot of stress to your personal and financial lives. If you lose your health insurance along with your job you need to come up with a plan for getting coverage in place before your group policy expires. You can do this through COBRA or buying an individual policy. Either way, make sure you have the right health insurance and that you don't go a day without coverage.
