Group Health Insurance can hold you back
There is no denying that group health insurance is full of benefits to most who take advantage of this type of coverage. But this does not mean that you are one of the people who are taking full advantage. In fact, with a bit of research you may find out that you are doing yourself a major disservice by relying on group health insurance. Believe it or not there are some people who are better off skipping this benefit and relying on other ways of receiving coverage.
The first question you need to ask yourself is how much money you pay for group health insurance. If you get coverage for free you are going to find it difficult to locate a better deal elsewhere. And while there are still some companies that offer free group health insurance there are others that are asking employees to pay a large portion of the premium. In this case you may be making a mistake. After all, you may be able to find an individual policy that is more cost effective. But you will never know until you receive quotes and compare the numbers.
Also, don't overlook the fact that you may be able to join your spouse's group health insurance plan. If you have never looked into this you should do so at once. This may not only be the most cost effective option, but it could also work out in your favor from a coverage point of view as well.
If you have the feeling that group health insurance is holding you back you need to consider your other options. You may find that your suspicion is right. In this case do yourself a favor and make the necessary changes.
