Some Midwest Residents Underestimated Flood Insurance Needs

The recent storms and tornadoes that have blasted Iowa and other parts of the Midwest has tragically left many families homeless. Coupled with that is the fact that many residents did not have flood insurance.

Many of the homes that have been flooded were not required to have flood insurance because they were not considered in danger of flooding. Homes well outside of the flood zone range have been damaged by rising waters. Even a town in Iowa that was considered "flood-proof' has not escaped from the catastrophic flooding in this area. This has many people across America reassessing their insurance needs. Just because a certain type of insurance is not mandatory, it does not mean you will never have a need for it.

Consider natural disasters that may be common in your region, not just your local community. Even if earthquake, flood or other types of insurance are not required for your property, consider the chance that you may need it in the future, and see how much of an additional cost it would be to purchase such an insurance policy. It's always a good idea to be on the safe side. You may find that for a few cents a day, you can have a little extra peace of mind.
