Buying Homeowners Earthquake Insurance
The average homeowner has homeowner insurance, but only a small percent have earthquake insurance. Damage due to earthquakes is not covered in a standard homeowners insurance policy. You can purchase earthquake insurance separately as a rider, floater or endorsement to your homeowners insurance policy.
Statistics show that earthquake damage has affected every single one of the 50 states. The largest number of earthquake insurance policies are sold in California. Earthquake insurance for a homeowner covers things like damage to the structure of the home and loss of use expenses if the home is not able to be lived in because of earthquake damage.
In each state from one provider to the next, rates for earthquake insurance vary dramatically. Shopping around and comparing quotes can help you determine which earthquake insurance provider may be best for your situation.
