Do Renters Need Flood Insurance?
Renters insurance is relatively inexpensive for the coverage it provides. Your personal belongings that you may have invested much money in will be protected against perils such as theft, vandalism and weather-related damage.
Renters insurance covers water damage from a burst pipe, leaking air conditioner or similar appliance. However it does not cover water damage from natural flooding. If you live in an area near a large body of water, or that is prone to strong storms, renters flood insurance may not be a bad idea. If you live in a flood zone you may want to purchase additional renters insurance for flood coverage. Flood zone maps can be obtained from FEMA.
