Home Inventory And Homeowners Insurance Claims
Homeowners insurance can assist you in replacing not only your home if it is destroyed but also your possessions. However, if you do not know what you own, it will be difficult to recoup your losses. Taking a home inventory can help your claim process run more smoothly in the event that you need to file a claim.
A thorough home inventory would include the following:
- List of items and a short description
- A photo of the item
- Place where item was bought
- Make, model and serial number of item
- Any product receipts or warranties
This list should be stored in several places; perhaps in a safe deposit box, on a computer disc, at a relative's house, at your work office or other safe location. If your house was completely destroyed and the home inventory list was stored in your home, it would not do you much good. Keeping a complete home inventory in a location away from home can help you settle your homeowners insurance claim.
