Keep Your Car Safe and Save Money on Auto Insurance

You can reap insurance savings simply by protecting your car. Anti-theft discounts are common among almost every auto insurer. Even if you can't get a discount from your auto insurance provider, you will certainly want to protect your expensive investment.

Having more than one anti-theft device is the best way to protect your auto. Layering anti-theft protection will slow down the process of stealing your car since a thief will have to get through several levels of security. If your auto insurance company offers this type of discount it will be for automatic anti-theft devices. An automatic anti-theft system does not require you to turn it on or off, it is working all the time. Your car insurance company prefers automatic anti-theft security because frequently people forget to turn on their alarms or other protection. Nearly a quarter of people who have manual anti-theft devices on their cars don't regularly use them according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau. A car tracking device is not something you can personally turn on or off, so this kind of security device may warrant a discount from your insurer.

There are three basic anti-theft categories: immobilization, warning and stolen vehicle tracking devices.

  • Immobilizing Device: These are designed to prevent your car from moving. It may involve steering wheel locking mechanisms, fuel cutoff, smart keys and other tools that keep your car from starting.
  • Warning Device: This is your standard car alarm that sounds a loud siren and flashes the lights of the car. They can be automatic or manually turned on. Some alarms sound when someone touches the car, while others may sound only when a door is opened while it is armed.
  • Tracking Device: A stolen vehicle tracking device, like a LoJack, is integrated you're your local police or law enforcement officials so that they can track your car if it is stolen.

There's some great technology out there to help you protect your car; why not reap extra benefits by getting a discount on your auto insurance? If you want to save even more money, be sure to fill out InsuranceBureau's online quote request form to compare auto insurance quotes and save.
