Peril And Disaster Coverage For Renters
If a pipe bursts and damages the floor to your apartment, your landlord will have the floor repaired with the insurance covering the property. If your sofa is damaged during the incident, you're out of luck; unless you have renters insurance. Most renters insurance covers damage from plumbing or appliances that are leaking water, vandalism, explosions, hail, wind and smoke.
You may purchase a floater or rider to cover other kinds of perils. Some perils may need a separate insurance policy altogether. They may include earthquakes, landslides, sinkholes, floods and in some regions hurricanes. Acts of war and nuclear events are not covered on any type of renters insurance policy.
