Promoting Disability Awareness
The Life and Health Insurance Foundation has devoted the entire month of May to promoting disability awareness. According to the foundation's research, almost 50 percent of all foreclosures are caused by disability. A sizable number of bankruptcies are also facilitated by a worker becoming disabled.
- In 2005, only 39 percent of people who applied for Social Security Disability benefits were approved.
- The average SSDI benefit was $938 a month, in 2005.
