What Is Medigap Coverage?

Nearly 27 percent of Americans receive some form of government health insurance, such as Medicare. Medicare Supplement Insurance or Medigap coverage covers "gaps' in Medicare insurance. Unlike Medicare, which is government-sponsored, Medigap policies are sold through private insurance companies.

Although Medigap insurance policies are sold through private insurance companies, they must be standardized to government regulations. There are 12 types of Medigap policies, A through L. For example a Medigap G policy at one company will be exactly the same as a Medigap G policy at another company. The only difference is the price of these policies.

Comparing Medigap policies can help you find the lowest price. Use InsuranceBureau's online form to obtain multiple health insurance quotes from private insurers in your area.
