What Is The California Earthquake Authority?
The CEA or California Earthquake Authority was set up after the Northridge Earthquake of 1994 caused unprecedented billions of dollars in damage to Southern California. Before the earthquake, insurers in California underestimated the risk and cost of paying claims resulting from earthquake damage. The CEA was set up as a publicly managed, privately funded, insurance organization.
The CEA provides earthquake insurance for common interest property owners, renters, mobile home owners and single family homeowners. In California you can obtain a CEA homeowners earthquake insurance policy through many of the major, well-known insurance companies.
